publicka

on a recent shopping excursion i spotted some great pieces by a line i had never heard of called publicka, whilst in eugene choo. after doing a little investigation on the net, i found out that it’s a line by edward shin from korea. his stuff is beauuutiful. this little blurb from revolve clothing sums it up perfectly: “Korean designer Edward Shin’s collection of youthful pieces for women bring modernity to traditional design. His line features moody hues, contrasting hemlines, and innovative details displayed on everything from girly frocks to trendy work-ready trousers. The Parsons alum has been featured in international fashion magazines like Marie Claire Korea, InStyle, Bazaar, and Vmagazine, and recently showed during Seoul’s Fashion Week.”
my favorite:

first off this BEAUTIFUL isabel marant scarf (a total splurge!! but you need those once in a while, right?)
and secondly a cute little betsey johnson heart-studded bag found at a local consignment store (anthea and sabrina, do you recognize this?? i realized i really liked it and thought it’d be the perfect evening bag – just picked it up the other day and used it last night in fact, when i attended a friend’s wedding reception!)

western living’s designers of the year awards and red flag design
September 11, 2008 · 1 Comment
tonight i attended western living magazine’s designers of the year awards party where they were recognizing the winners in the following design categories: architects of the year, interior designers of the year, furniture designer of the year, eco-designers of the year, fashion designer of the year, and landscape designer of the year.
i had the pleasure of chatting with Stuart Sproule, one half of the design duo behind red flad design, who won for eco-designers of the year. i was thrilled when i found out that they won, as i have been a longtime admirer of their stuff ( they make these fantastic bags out of recycled sail cloth – of which i own one!) so naturally i wanted to extend my congratulations. while conversing, we discussed the success of their creations and their wide appeal: to the “green-minded”, the practical-minded (they are sturdy and can hold lots) to the fashionista (they are asthetically pleasing!) or even a combo of all-of-the-above!
these guys are awesome and just hitting their stride! way to go barnaby and stuart! keep it up!!
oh and here’s a shot of what i wore to this oh-so-snazzy event:

van-blogger expedition

so today was full of fun and adventure, as i met up with a few other vancouver fashion bloggers for an afternoon of shopping on main street. anthea, sabrina, shay and i met for breakfast and then began wandering up main st.
we had a great time together. i think the highlight of it all was temple of the modern girl, where the above photos were taken, not just for awesome items found, such as sabrina’s fabulous leather skirt, but because of the girl working there. she was an absolute riot.
we talked about doing it again soon, and this time probs thrifting at value village, as opposed to vintage and consignment stores. we’ll be looking for hot deals! like stuff under $10! so stay tuned for the next installment!!
